Monday's top HS spring sports games to watch (3/11)

If games are played today and not postponed due to rain, here are the top high school spring sports games to see on Opening Day:

Baseball

Camden at South Side

Time: 5 p.m.

Players to watch: Camden senior Alex Kee; South Side catcher Mason Taylor

What to know: Camden won the District 11-AA championship last season, and the Lions want to build on that this season. South Side is looking to contend for the District 14-AA title. Playing on a bigger field like Pringles Park could be a big question mark for both teams.

Bolivar at North Side (Tomahawk Classic)

Time: 7 p.m.

Players to watch: Bolivar’s Zeke Turner; North Side senior Adam Craig

What to know:  This will be Bolivar’s second game of the day after playing Ripley earlier. The Tigers finished third in the South Division of District 14-AA last season. Bolivar has one of the top pitchers in the area in Zeke Turner. North Side is trying to get back to the region semifinals after missing out last year. The Indians bring back plenty of talent form last season.

Hardin County at Liberty (Tomahawk Classic)

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Players to watch: Liberty’s Adam Taylor; Hardin County’s Kendall Adkisson

What to know: Hardin County had a big season last year, making a run all the way to the Class AAA sectional. The Tigers lose a big key in Barker Burnham, but they should have players with the potential to fill the hole. Liberty rosters four seniors and four freshmen, so one key for the Crusaders will be how quick the freshmen can fill into starting roles.

Huntingdon at USJ (Tomahawk Classic)

Time: 6 p.m.

Players to watch: Huntingdon senior Jacob Warbritton; USJ senior Chase Hensley

What to know: USJ is the defending Division II-A state champion, and Huntingdon finished as one of the top four teams in Class A. Both teams lost major contributors from last year’s squad, so this will be good early measuring stick for both teams.

Lexington at TCA (Tomahawk Classic)

Time: 4 p.m.

Players to watch: Lexington’s Ryne Odle; TCA’s Andrew Wilson

What to know: Lexington finished in the Class AA region semifinals, and TCA lost in a Class A sectional. TCA is under a new coach, but the Lions are still poised for another postseason. Lexington is just a year removed from finishing as the Class AA runner-up.

Softball

Crockett County at Jackson Christian School

Time: 5 p.m.

Players to watch: Crockett County pitcher Kelly Rogers; JCS pitcher

What to know: A matchup of two quality programs meet to start off the spring season. JCS plays in Division II-A and is looking to get back to the state tournament after missing out last year. Crockett County plays in District 13-AA, and the Lady Cavaliers are looking to move from one of the top four team to one of the top two teams in the district. Two good pitchers will be the key to this game.

Westview at McKenzie

Time: 5 p.m.

Players to watch: Westview pitcher Meagan Prince; McKenzie shortstop Emma Arnold

What to know: A great test to start the season for McKenzie. The Lady Rebels reached the Class A sectionals two years ago and looking to get back. The pitching of Kentucky signee Meagan Prince will be tough for McKenzie.
